Way Of Beauty
Jaflong’s appeal to travelers is different; If you don’t go on a trip, the trip is incomplete. Jaflong has different forms of beauty in winter and monsoon season. In the monsoons, the beauty of Jaflong blossoms to a different degree. The dusty environment becomes transparent. Breathing in a soft environment has a sense of freshness. Cotton-like clouds hover over the green peaks of the Khasia hills and sometimes the mountain path becomes a danger zone in torrential rains; It’s like a different kind of experience. Along with that, the sight of the white waterfall coming down from a few thousand feet above will add to anyone’s eyes.
Creation of Jaflong
Jaflong is located in the border area of Sylhet, Bangladesh. On the other side is the Dauki region of India. Dawki River flowing from the hills of Dawki region enters Bangladesh through this Jaflong. Jaflong is mainly located in the basin of the river Piane. Jaflong, Tamabil and Lalakhal regions of Sylhet district have hilly upheavals. Sedimentary rocks are consolidated in this upheaval, so geological surveys have been conducted there several times by Bangladesh. Four types of hard rock are commonly found in Bangladesh; Among them, hard rock gravel is found in Bholaganj Jaflong. In addition, during the monsoon season, when there is heavy rain in the mountains of the Shillong plateau on the Indian border, large boulders are brought from those mountains in the strong current of Dauki river. Due to this, large amount of stones are found in the river of Jaflong in Sylhet area and the livelihood of a large part of the people of this area is built around the quarrying and processing of these stones.
History of Jaflong
According to historians, for thousands of years Jaflong was a secluded forest under King Jayantha of Khasia. Although the Khasia Jainta kingdom came to an end with the abolition of zamindari system in 1954 AD, large areas of Jaflong remained in decline for several years. Later traders started coming to Jaflong by sea from different areas in search of stones, and when the stone trade dress is happening, new settlements are built at some point. Apart from stone, white clay or porcelain and sand were found through Jaflong. Common Bengalis live in this area as well as tribals. There are five Khasiapunjis in Jaflong including Balla, Sangrampunji, Nakshiapunji, Lamapunji and Pratappur. According to the census, 1953 Khasia tribes live in Jaflong.
Jaflong’s Beauty
If you stand on the border of Bangladesh at Jaflong, you can see the high mountain ranges inside the Indian border. The springs coming down from these mountains are one of the tourist attractions. Besides, the hanging bridge of India’s Dawki port also attracts many people. Besides, the spiraling Dauki river also attracts tourists. Due to heavy rains on the Indian border due to monsoon flow, the river regains its navigability and becomes more picturesque when the river flow increases. The clarity of the water of Dawki river is also one of the attractions of Jaflong. Baisakhi Bela is organized in Jaflang around Bengali New Year on the first day of Baisakh. The whole area becomes full of festivities around this fair. Different beauty of Jaflong emerges in rainy season and winter. During the monsoons, the rain-soaked trees and the Kharshrota river are a sight to behold. Moreover, the view of the clouds on the top of the mountain is also quite beautiful.
Nature of Jaflong
Among the plant species of the Jaflong region, short varieties of palm trees (Licuala species) are seen. A lot of monkeys live around coconut and bamboo in Jaflong. Besides, bats have appeared in Jaflong Bazaar or Jaflong Zamindar’s house. However, due to food shortages and human intervention or illegal logging, many bats are leaving Jaflong for the surviving forests of Jaintaniya and Goainghat, or in neighboring countries.
